Turkey: Outlook for Powertrans After Renewed Kurdish Conflict and AKP Controversy

Powertrans, the Istanbul energy company and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) oil exporter connected to President Erdogan, has recently come under renewed scrutiny due to intraparty feuding within the AKP. In May Horizon reported on leaked documents that revealed the connection between Erdogan and Powertrans (please see our 21 May Latest Analysis). Powertrans is ostensibly headed by three main figures – Ahmet Sadi Gungor, Sevket Acar and Ahmet Muhassiloglu – although the real person pulling the strings is President Erdogan’s son-in-law Berat Albayrak.
