Turkey: Israeli-Turkish Natural Gas Pipeline: Regional Politics

In late March Israeli Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz declared that the Turkish-Israeli negotiations on building a natural gas pipeline may conclude this summer, with Israeli gas flows to Turkey to commence by 2020 via the Ceyhan terminal. Absent a Turkish-Cypriot peace deal that would allow passage via Cypriot waters, the current Turkish-Israeli plan is to build a direct underwater pipeline and then a second, more ambitious one that will go through Cyprus, Turkey and Greece and end in Italy.
