Turkey: Investment Outlook and Risks in the Turkish Mining Industry

Turkey processes around ninety types of mineral products, rendering the country as the world’s 28th in terms of total mining production value and the 10th richest in terms of total mineral diversity. Notably, Turkey contains around 72% of the world’s reserves of boron, a mineral used in chemical compounds to produce fiberglass and high-strength ceramic materials. Successive Turkish governments have pursued protectionist policies with regard to extraction of boron.
