Turkey: After the Gulenists: Who Will Take Over Key Government Positions?

In response to the failed coup on 15-16 July, the Turkish government has removed more than 100,000 civil servants, police and military personnel from duty. The staggering number of dismissals has not only caused alarm over the administrative and institutional repercussions, but also created a substantial rift between Ankara and Western capitals regarding the purges turning into a witch hunt. Indeed, not all of those purged or arrested are Gulenists; some are leftists, Kurdish activists and even secular-nationalists with whom President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is trying to forge an alliance.
