Turkey: Erdogan Looks Past November to Early Spring Elections

Following the major victory of the pro-Kurdish HDP in the 7 June elections, and the subsequent failure to craft a coalition government, Turkey is heading for snap elections on 1 November in which the incumbent AKP seeks to secure a single-party government and push the HDP below the 10% electoral threshold. While Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has pursued a more conciliatory stance, keeping the door open for coalition talks, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan views any outcome in which the AKP does prevail as a single-party government as unacceptable.
