Turkey: Erdogan-Davutoglu Rift Deepens

On 1 May a blog emerged containing a long list of accusations against Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu over his alleged “conspiracy” and “treachery” against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The blog spread swiftly on Twitter, quickly becoming one of the most important topics in Turkish politics. While skeptics argued that the blog may have been written by Erdogan supporters without his knowledge, Erdogan notably did not deny or denounce the blog’s contents when asked. On 3 May, during his weekly AKP speech, Davutoglu revealed that he took the accusations seriously, insisting that he may resign if necessary and would prevent attempts to “tear the party down.”
