South Africa: Eskom Governance Issues Escalate with Suspension of Four Executives

On 12 March the board of state-owned power utility Eskom suspended recently appointed CEO Tshediso Matona and three other senior executives for three months pending the outcome of an independent inquiry into the state of the company and its ongoing challenges. The inquiry will examine issues in power plants’ performance, construction delays for new plants, liquidity problems and high company costs.
