South Africa: Amid Delays, MPRDA Amendment Bill Unlikely to Pass by Mid-Year

Recent delays in the process to address President Jacob Zuma’s reservations on the MPRDA Amendment Bill mean that it will likely miss the mid-year target set by Minister of Mineral Resources Ngoako Ramatlhodi in February. Although President Zuma referred the bill back to the National Assembly on 16 January (please see our 21 January Latest Analysis), the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources resolved in late February that it should first be sent to the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
