Mozambique: Renamo and Government Extend Cease-Fire

On 4 January Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama announced a two-month cease-fire between Renamo and government forces, an extension of the seven-day truce announced on 28 December. In practical terms, the extended cease-fire means that both sides will refrain from ambushes and attacks on military and civilian targets for the next two months, and that patrols will restrict their movements to a maximum radius of 4km from their respective bases.
