Mozambique: Nyusi Rejects IMF Forensic Audit

On 26 July the Assembly of the Republic discussed a parliamentary commission to investigate the legality of Mozambique’s sovereign debt. Parliament approved the creation of a commission of inquiry, but restricted its membership to MPs, meaning that no civil society organization (CSO) representatives will be able to participate. Notably, one of Renamo’s key demands was for CSO participation in the inquiry to prevent a whitewash by the Frelimo majority. Renamo, however, was overruled by the Frelimo majority together with the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM).
