Mozambique: High Stakes: Implications of the Assassination of Leading Constitutional Lawyer

On the morning of 3 March Gilles Cistac, Mozambique’s foremost constitutional lawyer, was assassinated by unknown assailants in central Maputo. The perpetrators approached Cistac near a local café and shot him three times. Cistac’s murder raises a number of questions regarding the motives of his assailants, on whose orders they acted, and their objective.
