Mozambique: Despite “Unsatisfactory” Governance Review, G19 Donors Continue Funding

On 15 May Minister for Finance and Economy Adriano Maleiane attended the annual review meeting between the Mozambican government and the “G19,” the group of development partners and countries that provide assistance through direct budget support (DBS) of Mozambique’s state budget. The annual meeting serves to evaluate the Mozambican government’s progress and funding from the G19 program aid partners (PAPs) in the prior year based upon mutually agreed indicators. Donors provide funding contingent on the government meeting these criteria, which include initiatives such as improving the business environment, reducing corruption and increasing the rollout of the electricity grid.
