Mozambique: Continued Violence Spurs Meeting Plans for Nyusi and Dhlakama

On 24 and 25 July additional clashes allegedly involving armed Renamo men occurred in the Moatize district of central Tete province in a continuation of the recent wave of violence in the area. Soon after, on 30 July Jose Pacheco, the chief negotiator for the government in its talks with Renamo, denied that government troops such as the Forces for the Defense of Mozambique (FADM) or the Rapid Intervention Police Units (UIR) were involved in the latest clashes in the province.
