Mexico: Rural Resistance to the Energy Reforms: Implications for IOCs

On 23 June a number of peasant leaders in Puebla state publicly voiced their concerns about the impact the energy reforms will have on their lands and agrarian communities. Notably, Round One blocks are located between pieces of farmland or directly in fields regularly designated for agriculture, meaning that this land will be damaged by machinery crossing from one place to another or impacted directly by drilling and exploration work. In total, Round One will affect some 10,000 acres spread across more than 10 municipalities in Puebla state.
