Mexico: Pemex’s Layoff Negotiations with the STPRM: An Uphill Battle for the Government

On 29 June the STPRM announced it had already formed a strike committee to begin negotiations with Pemex on three main issues: pending layoffs, a new wage adjustment and the bases for the collective bargaining agreement to be signed in 2017. Unsurprisingly, Carlos Romero Deschamps was appointed as the head of the strike committee. The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) senator and STPRM leader will be directly in charge of negotiating with both the federal government and Pemex hierarchy over the terms and conditions of the labor negotiations.
