Mexico: Pemex Accident Sets Stage for ASEA Intervention

On 1 April an early morning fire at Abkatun A-Permanente, a Pemex processing platform located several miles off the coast of Campeche state in the southern Gulf of Mexico, left four workers dead and three more missing, according to official reports released that day. A total of 46 workers were injured, including many with serious burns taken to hospitals in Campeche and Mexico City. Pemex successfully evacuated over 300 workers from the platform, with emergency boats working for 18 hours to extinguish the blaze and prevent oil from spilling into the sea.
