Mexico: CNH’s Renaissance Ruling: Implications for IOCs

On 22 February the CNH board announced it had denied Canada’s Renaissance Oil Corp, one of the winning companies in Round 1.3, a permit to suspend its activities at a mature onshore block. Renaissance had argued that there were oil spills throughout the field that posed an environmental hazard and that it could not start operating the block until the previous operator, Pemex, performed the necessary works to clean up the spills and prepare the area for further drilling.
