Mexico: Cautious Optimism After Successful Second Auction of Round One

After the discouraging results of the first auction of Round One, pressure mounted on the federal government to attract more investors to subsequent auctions and accordingly safeguard the energy reforms. Nearly two and a half months later, the government managed to deliver a more encouraging outcome. On 30 September CNH carried out the second auction of Round One for shallow-water fields of the coasts of Campeche and Tabasco states in the Gulf of Mexico. Three out of the five blocks offered were awarded – a far better result than the previous auction, in which only two of the 14 blocks were assigned.
