Mexico: ASEA Issues E&P Regulations: Environmental Oversight Looms Large

Earlier this month, ASEA finally issued regulations that establish standards for conducting risk assessment and mitigation, technical provisions for infrastructure, and a series of criteria companies will have to comply with for exploration and production in all fields except for unconventional reserves. The private sector and other government agencies had anticipated the 6 December release for months. The regulations had notably been stalled because ASEA had focused almost exclusively on other matters that were receiving more attention from Mexican media, such as accidents at petrochemical facilities and platforms operated by Pemex.
