Mexico: ASEA Fines Pemex: A Test of the Agency’s Influence

On 11 April the Security, Energy and Environment Agency (ASEA) announced it would fine Pemex 2.5mn pesos ($140,500) for violating industrial safety and environmental protocols last year at the Antonio M. Amor Refinery facilities in Salamanca, Guanajuato. Throughout December 2015, the refinery generated tons of waste, causing the city of Salamanca enact an environmental contingency plan for air pollution.
