Mexico: The 2017 Budget: Energy Regulatory Agencies Under Pressure

Newly appointed Minister of Finance Jose Antonio Meade presented the federal budget for 2017 to the Chamber of Deputies last week. The executive proposed an overall 2% cut in federal spending, which could drop from 2.9tn pesos ($154bn) in 2016 to 2.8tn pesos ($148bn) in 2017 if the chamber approves the budget as is now. The bulk of the cuts fell on highly sensitive areas, such as healthcare and education.
