Libya: Trump’s Policy: An Opening for Haftar?

A little more than a week into Donald Trump’s presidency, the guessing game continues in Washington over what Libya policy might look like under the new administration. In the past two weeks, a number of Libyans with political ambitions have been in Washington lobbying figures within Trump’s circles, believing now is their chance to get the ear – and more – of the new administration. Some are close to the controversial Khalifa Haftar, who remains opposed to the UN process and appears more confident since Trump’s election.
