Libya: Tripoli Security Situation Continues to Decline

Almost a year since the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) was signed, bringing the GNA into existence – or at least its first layer in the shape of the Presidency Council – the unity government is struggling now more than ever, not least in Tripoli, where the latest shifts in militia power plays may pose a more serious threat. Since the GNA’s founding, most militias in Tripoli have been supportive of or ambivalent toward it, either seeing it as helping to protect their interests or waiting to see if it would protect theirs.
