Libya: The GNA and Oil Sales

The first layer of the UN-backed GNA, the Presidency Council, is having one of the worst weeks of its short existence. The council not only lacks the House of Representatives’ endorsement required under the political agreement that brought it into being, but is also struggling to maintain momentum in Tripoli while bracing itself for the fallout from a much-speculated potential push by Khalifa Haftar’s forces on the oil crescent and possibly Sirte. Various eastern factions, including Haftar, are working to undermine the nascent GNA.
