Libya: Sanalla’s Criticism: Objections to a Jadhran Deal

Within hours of UN envoy Martin Kobler’s 21 July meeting with PFG commander Ibrahim Jadhran in Ras Lanuf, it was clear that the visit would cause major ripples. Not only did angry Horizon contacts at the NOC in Tripoli say they were not informed of the meeting in advance, but the claim at a joint press conference that oil exports would be resumed within days was greeted with derision. Kobler’s behavior at the meeting, with his overly casual and familiar manner captured in photographs that were widely circulated in Libya, was not only considered lacking in gravitas, but also deemed as playing to Jadhran’s sense of self-importance.
