Libya: Obama’s Parting Shot Against ISIL

In an unexpected move over a month after the Pentagon announced the end of air operations against ISIL in Libya, two US Air Force B-2 bombers targeted ISIL camps in Libya on the night of 18 January. The airstrikes killed more than 80 militants, including some who were “actively involved” in plotting attacks in Europe, outgoing US Defense Secretary Ash Carter said, marking the first time a Western official has stated unequivocally that Libya-based ISIL members were planning to hit targets across the Mediterranean in Europe.
