Libya: Haftar’s Moscow Visit: A Headache for the GNA

Having done his best to sabotage the UN-backed dialogue process and resulting unity government, Khalifa Haftar traveled to Moscow this week to discuss weapons deliveries with senior Russian officials. His visit follows the recent UN Security Council vote to authorize an EU naval operation to enforce the arms embargo on Libya. While Russia went along with the vote, it voiced several reservations. Russian diplomats claimed there was a hidden agenda behind the US- and UK-drafted resolution and that it would sow further division in Libya.
