Libya: Al-Naduri and the LNA’s Power Grab

Even before Haftar’s self-styled LNA seized control of the four key terminals in the oil crescent earlier this month, boosting his political leverage, concerns were already being raised over the LNA’s attempts to interfere with the workings of municipal councils and state bodies. While Haftar still claims publicly to not interfere in politics or with civilian bodies, the reality is that he and his associates are steadily trying to take over such entities in order to consolidate their power base, particularly in (but not limited to) eastern Libya.
