Kazakhstan: Italy Visit Underscores Nazarbayev’s Partnership and Succession Planning

While visiting Italy for the Expo Milano 2015 at the end of June, President Nursultan Nazarbayev held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in which the president announced the extension and expansion of Kazakhstan’s trial visa-free regime with most OECD countries and signed 20 different agreements with Italian partners worth $500mn. The agreements range from agricultural machinery to textiles to food to construction, with the most important one being with Eni.
