Kazakhstan: The CPC’s Growing Export Role

On 31 January Nikolai Gorban, the general director of the CPC, announced that that there was a significant uptick in Kazakhstan’s use of the oil export pipeline to the Russian port of Novorossiysk in 2016, and that this will continue into 2017 and over the next few years. In January alone, the increase was 7% year-on-year. The pipeline transited over 44mn tons of crude in 2016, of which, according to Horizon’s estimates, around 25mn tons came from the Tengiz field, 10mn tons from Karachaganak, and almost 1mn tons from Kashagan.
