After months of indecision, on 14 October President Joko Widodo opted to install Ignasius Jonan as minister of energy and mineral resources, also bringing back Archandra Tahar as vice minister. The move has raised some eyebrows, as Jokowi had dismissed Jonan from the Transportation Ministry in July. Jonan was removed due to costly delays in a high-profile, $5bn high-speed rail project that has involved primarily Chinese firms. He also came under fire for overturning a ban on ride sharing services, including Gojek and Uber. Jonan himself claimed that he was surprised by the appointment, learning about it less than three hours before it was announced.
