Brazil: Temer’s Cabinet: A Sharp Rightward Turn

On 11 May the Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of an impeachment trial against Dilma Rousseff by 55 votes to 22. Rousseff has now stepped down for 180 days until the Senate issues a final decision on her removal. Former Vice President Michel Temer of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) has taken over the presidency. On 12 May he unveiled his new cabinet members.
